How does Solar PV work?

Solar Power For Your Home

Understanding your PV Solar System

The idea is simple – use sunlight to generate electricity to power your home.

Store your excess energy in a battery to use at night. Sit back and enjoy those savings.

How Solar PV Panels Work

At Clover Energy Systems, we are committed to helping businesses and consumers transition to clean, renewable energy sources. Our solar PV (photovoltaic) panels are designed to harness the power of the sun and convert it into usable electricity. Let’s explore the simple yet fascinating process behind how solar PV panels work.

1. Capturing Sunlight

Solar PV panels are made up of individual solar cells, which are typically constructed from semiconductor materials like silicon. These cells have a unique property that allows them to generate an electric current when exposed to sunlight. The panels are strategically positioned to capture as much sunlight as possible, maximizing energy generation.

2. The Photovoltaic Effect

As sunlight reaches the surface of the solar cells, it consists of tiny packets of energy called photons. These photons penetrate the surface of the cells and interact with the semiconductor material. The energy from the photons is transferred to the electrons in the material, causing them to become energized and move.

3. Generating Electricity

The movement of energized electrons creates an electric current within the solar cells. This flow of electrons is then harnessed as electricity, which can be used to power various electrical devices and systems. The solar PV panels are connected in a series or parallel arrangement to form a module, and multiple modules are linked together to create a solar array capable of producing substantial amounts of electricity.

4. Utilizing the Generated Power

The electricity generated by the solar PV panels can be used immediately to power appliances, lighting, machinery, and other electrical loads within your premises. Any excess power can be stored in batteries for later use or fed back into the grid. Through a process called net metering, you can even earn credits for the surplus energy you supply back to the grid, reducing your electricity bills.

Solar PV Panels

Use cells to convert sunlight into DC electricity. The PV cell consists of one or two layers of a semi conducting material, usually silicon. When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers causing electricity to flow.

The DC Power

Runs from the PV panels to the inverter. Here it is converted from DC to useable AC power.

At this point

The electricity you have generated will either be sent to your fuse board to be used or stored in a battery.

Excess Energy

Is stored in your battery or routed to your hot water tank by our smart & automated immersion controller.

And there you have it

Electricity to power your home and reduce your reliance on the national grid for energy!
